George Mason: I was born on December 11, 1725. When my father George died when I was ten years old, my mother, Ann, left me in the care of my uncle John Mercer. When I reached adulthood, I was once one of the richest planters in Virginia. I married Anne Elibeck and in 23 years of marriage I had four daughters and five sons. I pursued my political career. I was elected into the Virginia House of Burgesses in 1759. I assisted in the Fairfox Resolves which were in response to the Boston Port Act. From 1776 to 1780, my life was filled with great legislative activity. In 1780, I married my second wife Sarah Brent. I was a very frequent speaker at the Constitutional Convention and I was very influential.
